Final Thoughts

My journey has only begun. It was fun and I am a little sad that it is over... now, I have to start work on the 43 things. What I got out of this project was a sense of accomplishment and a refresher course on lifelong learning. I have established a lot of accounts to many services on the web. Hopefully, I will remember all of my passwords and continue to use the services. I currently use del.icious and bloglines daily. I don't think that I will be maintaining the blog, but you never know. I have downloaded Chinese lessons and have my books at home cataloged(well, 5 of them) and the family saves a lot of money by using Zohowriter. I feel very techo and it seems fitting to end by saying something very cheesy like to infinity and beyond!!!!!!(It was bad, I know)

Project Gutenberg and Audiobooks

The Gutenberg project has a lot of old titles. It is a good resource if you are looking for dated and out of print books. I didn't find anything of interest, but it is good to know that this project exists. I looked at the tutorials for Netlibrary and Overdrive.

Podcasts, a new revolution that is not so new

Podcast unites nostalgia with the present/future. Long gone are the days when the family would gather around the radio and listen to the Jack Benny Show. Hello podcasts. Hey hubby, hey kids I have just discovered a great show on the podcast. Let's listen shall we?
I downloaded Mugglecast Harry Potter Podcasting from Podcast Alley to my blogline account and downloaded 2 free podcasts from yahoo to itunes. I initially had some problems because the playlist format was not recognized, but I figured it out and now I can listen to my podcasts.
I did not find much of interest when browsing podcast alleys top 10 for July but I downloaded Mugglecast. Podcast.net was very basic and some the the links did not work. I liked the video streams but some of the jazz podcast were horrible. I found Yahoo podcast to be the most aesthetically pleasing and the easiest to navigate.

Evolution of Dance

This is a great video. I like to watch any video that reminds me of the good old days.

You Tube Junkie

I have been a You tube junkie since Staff Day was posted. I enjoy you tube because I can search for old sitcoms, old long forgotten groups or find clips of shows that I may have missed.

YouTube is already being used to link and advertise libraries to customers. I envision more of this happening on a larger scale and youtube can be used to inform the public and library staff of library policies and procedures and library resources. Youtube can be used as yet another way to connect with people.

Zoho Writer and web awards

Below are the results of my first posting via Zoho writer.com This is a very nice packet and the price is right. You are able to change the skins or your template color and there are many templates to choose from. Zoho writer is very easy to use, but I ran into trouble while posting. My wink did not convert over to a graphic. the word wink showed up encased in a box. I had to remove it in the html.

I explored some of the web award sites. I got my donkey knog on at arcaplay. Some of the sites I have seen before, such as Library Thing and I have used craigs list in the pass to help my daughter look for an apartment in New York.

first time

This is the first time that I am using zoho writer.com

Playing in the sandbox

The sandbox was fun this is what I added

I enjoy reading classics and non-fictions book. Some of them are:

The Professor's House by Willa Cather

Bleak House by Charles Dickens

Man's search For Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl

Open Wide The Freedom Gates by Dorothy Height

Wiki, Wiki, Wiki, Wiki

Wiki-quick
A quick and easy way to learn and share information.
Pros
Quick
Easy
Early versions can be regenerated if needed
Everyone can add to and edit
Cons
Everyone can add to and edit
Information may not be reliable
Anyone can change it and vandalize
Well I checked out the recommended Wikis and this is what I think;
SJCPl Subject Guides- Is much more than a subject guide. The guide provides information
to various printed resources and links the viewer to others via the use of blogs. Love the hobby section
Library 2.0 15 minutes a day - More information that supplements what we are learning during the 23 things. Maybe, I will spend more time there when I am done my work here.
BookLovers Wiki- Wiki based on publishers and others recommendations
What types of applications could be applied to the library using a Wiki?
Any subject or interest that involves information and group sharing. Wikis can be set up for committees, book discussion groups, Teens, Parents, Master Gardeners, HCPL Friends Groups, etc, etc,

Iceburgs and the future of the library

The Machine is Us/ing Us (Final Version)

This is an awesome summary of how far technology has come and where we are going. What an exciting time.

The library will change to catch up and stay in the public mind-set. We are in a situation where teens and children have been fed technology since birth and they can pretty much find pretty much any information that they have access to. Libraries will need to create a new concept and need for these groups. I think that having the library as a social hub is a step in the right direction especially since people are using technology to connect socially.

Technorati

I just finished watching the technorati tutorial. This looks like something that I can really get into. The site has many features that will have been exposed to during the 23 things projects.
I viewed top favorite searches and blogs and searched for 2.0 learning and found many blogs from libraries across the country. I have discovered that how to make money creating blogs seems to be a favorite site of many.

Tagging, Folksonomies & Technorati

I have watched the 12 minute podcast describing delicious and I wished the visual was larger. The information was informative and the music at the end was a nice touch. Creating booklists and syllabus.
conducting research and connecting with others. Hmmmm. I am not very excited yet, but will continue to keep an open mind. How would I use this resource? I will proceed with my discovery.

Ok I followed the steps using the A beginner's guide to The Next Big Thing resource and they lied to me. the site said that sign up was simple and that there you didn't need to enter an e-mail address and guess what? you do. I opened an account and fooled around a bit. It's growing on me. I like being able to see what other names and subjects people use to tag various sites.

Roll Roll Rollyo

Interesting, I created another account (I hope that I remember all of these passwords and usernames). The name of my search roll is CharTechRemedys
This is a great improvement from my very long lists of bookmarks and I like the fact that you can search all of your usual sites at one time. This is definitely a time saver.

I also created a del.icio.us account and I love it. All of my favorite sites on on page.

Merlin, Newsfeeds,Etc.

Merlin is a site funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This site has learning links, training calendars and virtual meeting set-ups. A sandbox is available to test and experiment with new technologies and of course there are on-line tutorials.
I have subscribed to Merlin and have explored some helpful newfeed search sites. I think that I prefer Topix.net so far. I like the fact that the town of Bel Air automatically was in place and the site automatically showed articles pertaining to the area.

I am in love with the Library Thing!! What a great idea. I am an avid book lover and collector, really most of my family are constantly supplying the home with books. This is a wonderul and easy way to organized them.

Playing with Generators

This was fun!! I have just begun. FD toys was my favorite. It was simple to use and there is no need to enter e-mails and identity. That becomes annoying for me after a while. Anyhow, enjoy the photo of my handsome husband. He is very colorful.

A little Frustrated-RSS & Newsreaders

I am attempting to set up my own bloglines newsreader account. I have followed the procedure but an alert sign continues to display that I need to verify my account by responding to my e-mail. I have checked my e-mail and there is nothing to reply to. If at first you know succeed......Stay tuned
Well...15 minutes later, I have solved the problem and have entered my e-mail address at work since this is the address that was used for my initial registration. I am now loaded with 34 newsfeeds and counting!
